I've been seeing super reflective lenses cropping up everywhere lately, and I must admit I am 100% on board with this trend. I love the metallic element the mirrored finish adds to a basic pair of sunnies, and bonus points that you can be a people-watching creeper without anyone ever knowing. I bought this clear and silver mirrored pair that looks way more expensive than they actually were for a cool $14 at Urban Outfitters this past weekend (but they aren't online, booo!), and haven't taken them off since. Here are a few other pairs I'm digging if y'all want to jump on the bandwagon!
I've got work, work and then some more work so there won't be too much downtime for me this weekend. Maybe on Sunday we can sneak up to my parents house and take a dip in the pool (didn't do that all summer....that's the one good thing about fall basically being non-existent here in Austin). Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Leaving y'all with some fun weekend reading...enjoy the winks (weekend links)!
Imagine this all too common scenario in our household, if you will. I had a half container of almost-expired Greek yogurt in the fridge, a psychotic craving for something sweet, time working against me, and a broken oven. Cookies were out. Cakes take too long and are messy. I get annoyed that we don't have any popsicles left. All I want is some ice creeeaaammm, geez. Then bing...peanut butter fro yo to the rescue! A full 20 minutes later, John and I were eating a tangy, creamy, and protein-packed frozen yogurt drizzled with chocolate and sprinkles. A quick and easy dessert after a busy day at work.
Homemade Peanut Butter Greek Frozen Yogurt
Ingredients
2 cups plain Greek yogurt (I used non-fat)
1/2 cup milk of choice (I used almond milk)
Generous 1/2 cup peanut butter (or preferred nut butter)
1 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1/3 cup sugar
Directions
1.The night before you make this, put your ice cream making bowl in the freezer. We keep ours in there 24/7 for emergency situations like this. ;)
2. Stir all ingredients except optional chips in a medium bowl until mixture is completely smooth, and transfer to a chilled ice cream maker.
2. Churn according to the appliance
directions. If you want, now is the time to add any chocolate chips or other mix-ins into the batter.
3. Eat
immediately as soft-serve, or freeze in an airtight container for a half
hour if you want a firmer texture.
*Note: If you don’t have an ice cream
machine, you can freeze the batter in a tupperware and stir every 1/2 hour. It will be a little lumpier, but it will still taste good!
Happy Monday, y'all...hope you all had a great weekend. John and I had a blast in Houston, where we gallivanted about town with my baby brother and his girlfriend. We found some real gems while we were there this time around, and I just had to share them with you all. Be warned: most are food joints because we are fat kids like that.
1. Houston Zoo // Elephants! Tigers! Foosa! Meerkats! Grizzlies! Albino alligator! Lions! Chimps! Giraffes! Perhaps it's because we went to the zoo as a family all the time when I was growing up, but I can't resist a date at the zoo. I just wish the animals could roam the entire length of Hermann Park....I feel bad that they are cooped up in those little pens all day. :( But, on the plus side, they seemed to be looked after really well.
2. Local Foods // So good! I
loved the vibe of this place. I got the crunchy chicken sandwich on a
fresh pretzel bun with kale and housemade chips, and John got the duck
confit sandwich (tasted like Thanksgiving!) with the chips and orzo. We
also shared the limeade, which was super tasty.
3. Natural 'Beachy' Waves // When we left our house on Saturday AM, I had blow-dried my hair straight. Cut to a few hours later, and I had waves galore compliments of the most insane humidity ever. Normally that kind of weather does a hideous number on my tresses, but it was working for me that day. Win!
4. Crave Cupcakes // From the
sleek and modern marble and glass decor to the adorable cupcakes
monogrammed with their signature vintage stand mixer, I loved this
place. The coconut cupcake was my favorite. A definite must-visit when we go back next time!
5. Myth & Symbol // Probably
one of my favorite boutiques in Houston, this gem is packed full of
Rachel Comey, Ace & Jig, Odette, Alyson Fox prints and more. It's on
the pricier side, but the clothes, accessories, home decor and shoes
are well worth it if you are looking for a beautifully crafted investment piece. It's just a predicament when you can't narrow down what to get because you want every single piece in the store. Sigh.
6. Sweet Paris Creperie & Cafe // Smore's crepe strike your fancy? How
about a lemon and sugar option? Classic banana and nutella float your
boat? Or are you more of a dulce de leche with strawberries fan? Either
way, this creperie serves up a ton of sweet and savory crepes in a
really adorable Parisian-themed setting.
What are your plans for the weekend? John and I realized that since we moved to Austin two years ago, we haven't really explored outside of Austin all that much. We have visited San Antonio, Bastrop, Smithville, Houston and hit up Dallas for a 24 hour jaunt so far, but other than that, it's been home sweet home. SO, we booked a weekend trip to Houston on the fly to visit my baby brother and some pals. Any Texas spots that you all recommend? We are clueless where to go in this great state. Hope you all have a grrrreat weekend!
Some fun weekend reading...enjoy the winks (weekend links)!
Épicerie, a small French grocery/bistro in the Rosedale neighborhood, caused a heck of a lot of controversy when in the 'planning to open' phase. I bet the residents who were anti-Épicerie feel pretty stupid right about now, because daaaaaang this place is amazing. After one too many "oh, I've heard about that place but haven't been" conversations, John and I recently went to check it out after we ran some errands in that part of town.
I didn't know what to expect really, but all I can say is my jaw dropped when we walked in. I mean, the place is super cute from the outside, but the inside? Ermahgerd, I died. It's a light-filled heaven of dark navy walls, slick Carrera marble, copper lighting, bubble chandeliers, baguettes, cheese, wine....I wanted to move in. Seriously. Just make that place my personal B&B. After mulling over a small but appetizing brunch menu, we both got the pastrami hash. It was awesome. Small portions, though - but the ingredients were all prepared to perfection. Next time I make a hash (which would coincidentally be the first...not a lot of hashing in this household), I am totally copycatting and putting apples in there. It's magical in that dish. We polished our meal off with housemade beignets, because they are housemade warm beignets drenched in powdered sugar, for heaven's sake. Might as well call them Kryptonite.
1. Super long hair // I decided to grow my hair out....Rapunzel status. It's a slow and arduous process, and I started taking some biotin vitamins to help speed things up. Bonus that my nails will also get a healthy boost. Here's to hoping my palm tree-like split ends don't annoy me too much, and make me beg for a chop chop chop before I reach 'mermaid hair' lengths. 2. Madewell D'Orsay Black Flats // I need to get some new black flats
for fall....a cute pair that goes with skinny jeans and dresses, and
can easily be dressed up or down. With the basic shape but cool details
like that heel cut-out and two-textured toe, I think these lovelies fit
the bill!
3. New Earrings // I couldn't resist any longer. These earrings
would literally taunt me with their simple lines and cute triangle
penants every time I walked by them at Co-Star (which is quite frequently). I finally made them mine, and have been wearing them non-stop.
4. West Elm Marble Print Pillows // I am constantly on the hunt
for lighting and pillows. The lighting situation is a hot mess in our
house, but we are pretty ok on pillows...so says John. I don't think you
can ever have too many. I inherited that mantra from my mom. So, with
that in mind, this marbled delight in a pretty blue is definitely on my wish list.
5. Trader Joe's Lavender Salt Scrub // Whenever I am in close proximity to a Trader Joe's, I stock up on this super affordable but ultra luxe salt scrub. It's like a moisturizing spa treatment from the south of France for $6....can't beat that. Or the intoxicating scent and uber-soft skin afterwords. Literally counting down the days until TJ's opens up in Austin!
7. CAS Handmade // My super sweet sister from another mister (sister-in-law if you want to get technical) picked up this adorable handmade painted linen clutch by CAS Handmade at a farmer's market for my birthday. Thank you so so so much, Christy and Elizabeth - I love it!
8. The Perfect Pink Polish // A whole lot of neon,
orange, metallic silver and blue has donning my digits as of late, so my
hunt for the perfect soft pink began. The reqs? No shimmer, no
sparkles, and not too sheer. With family photos in a few hours and my
nails in a horrendous state, I ran into CVS when we were in Connecticut
last week and wanted to get something cheap that I wouldn't mind tossing
if TSA wouldn't allow my already overflowing bag of liquids through the
security check when we headed back home. Turns out, this pink hue for a cool $2 is my new fave.
Loving the ethereal hand-dyed linen and silk scarves by Miranda Bennett. Very Mark Rothko meets Texas sunsets. Excited to see her wares in person at Feliz this year...hurry up, November!
I'm a big fan of pretty much anything and everything Odette NY makes, so when my eyes feasted upon the new Voyager collection, I didn't even want to blink. Had to keep my peepers open as long as possible to soak in all the handmade goodness.
