Well, it's my birthday today and I've got to say that 26 was a pretty epic year...the hubs and I took a grown-up leap and bought a house, a sweet nephew was added to the family roster, I got a great new job, traveled here and there to explore our great state and visit family and friends - which included celebrating my bestie getting married, worked on some really rad freelance projects with amazing friends, and so much more that I can't remember because I'm getting old. Thank goodness for this blog! I think digging through my archives has got to be one of my favorite things about blogging. Reviewing those little moments frozen in time that I would otherwise hazily recall.
Welcome, 27. Let's do this. Ringing it in at Olive & June tonight with the fam, too. Excited to try that place!
What a whirlwind week it's been...and with no signs of slowing down for the next two! After a jaunt to Vegas to check out Magic Market Week for work, I'm back in Austin (until next week's trip to New England, woohoo!) and couldn't be happier to be home. I don't think I could have wiped that perma-grin off my face when John came to pick me up at the airport last night (at midnight, no less) if I had tried with all my might. I love that guy to the max tons. I guess you know it's true love when he'll sit next to you, sharing a bowl of popcorn and the most perfect summer peach, watching the Bill Cunningham documentary on Netflix...which is totally happening this very minute, by the way. The perfect way to spend my last night as a 26 year old! 27....let's do this. Excited to see what you have in store for moi.
I'm having a romper moment, y'all. Any of you loving these easy onesies as much as I am? A little edgier than a simple dress, I definitely think a romper is just what my closet needs. Now to only find one that'll fit my 6' bod...most of the ones I've tried on bordered on atomic wedgie territory (that was TMI...sorry) which is NOT a good look on anyone ever. Hopefully finding one that is long enough won't be like finding a needle in a haystack. Fingers crossed one (or all....mwahahaha!) of the contenders above will fit the bill. Cheers to easy summer dressing!
Any one else totally obsessed/horrified/scared/mesmerized by Shark Week?! Did you see last night's episode where that guy was filming a TV show and was yammering on and on about how sharks don't see us as food? And then 10 seconds later, his leg looked like it has been shredded up like confetti streamers. Seriously nasty stuff. Yet, John and I can't turn away. I can't say how smart I was NOT to serve the tomato soup I had ready for dinner. Ok, that's my cue to end this morbid post.
When John and I were living in Boston, we had an adorable - yet miniscule- shoebox of an apartment to furnish. Since we weren't planning on staying there longterm, we went the el cheapo route for furnishings...basically hand-me-downs and lots of Ikea. The white Lack coffee table from Ikea was just the right size, and doubled as our dining room table as well (we are thugs like that).
Surprisingly, 2 years later, that table is still with us. I really love the size of it, and its plain white finish just seemed to work with all our furniture. What I wasn't loving was the "Ikea-ness" of it. Drawing inspiration from our sleek walnut credenza and hand-me-down vintage Eames chair (best hand-me-down EVER), I decided to give our table a mid-century modern makeover on the cheap. All I needed was a pair of signature tapered legs...so to Etsy and eBay I went. I ended up buying this set for a total of $35, if any of you are curious. Once they arrived, all I did was remove the Ikea legs and screw those mid-century babies in and voila! Old table, new look.
The finish on the tabletop is worn off in certain places, so I need to figure out what to do to give that part a little freshening up...but for know, I'm loving the white and wood combo and our lucite Mattie Luxe tray also helps to cover up any of those blemishes. Painting this stuff is apparently a hot mess, so I'm not sure I want to go that route...though the edge in a fun color would be cute, no? I'm still debating whether or not to upholster the top...perhaps in a chartreuse or teal fabric? To tuft or not to tuft? John mentioned putting a mirror on top. We shall see...but for now, I'm digging this sleek new white and wood look.
