I'm not the biggest fan of all the cray-cray nail art (I'm looking at you, Katy Perry) that's been "trendy" for what seems like ages. Maybe I just don't have 2 hours to spend painting my nails only to discover the design looks like crap, or maybe I lack the patience to sit still to let my Michelangelo-worthy masterpieces dry without goofing it up, or maybe it's that I just don't have the heart to see my creations chip away after I scrub-a-dub the dishes. These are mysteries to which the answers I'll never know. What I am a fan of? The fact that matte nail polish has made a comeback. It popped up on the digits of models prancing down the NYFW runways at Alexander Wang, Kaelen, and Angel Sanchez.

To get on the matte bandwagon, all you need is around $10 to invest in a mattifying nail polish top coat from Essie, OPI, Butter, Deborah Lippmann or good ol' Revlon. Any color in your current collection can now be worn as an uber-chic matte polish. I especially think it looks cool when paired with a shiny tip or polka dot. Cute!

My uber-talented friend Lauren just launched her very first Etsy shop dedicated to all things sparkly, metallic and celebratory. She showed me a few samples yesterday and.....gahhhhh. I'm obsessed. I mean, there's a gilded chubby penguin and a cow with sparkly udders in the collection. Enough said.

Because the influx of pink and red surrounding February 14th isn't really my cup of tea, I'm sticking to one thing for Valentine's Day that is sure to perk up ears once uttered: NUDE. This color is like the casually suggestive and often ignored little sister of the va-va-voom red we all associate with Valentine's Day. I absolutely love it when paired with just a little black for contrast. Whether it's metallics in muted gold and copper tones, sparkly sequins, subtle shimmering makeup that emphasizes your natural beauty, or buttery tanned leathers, go nude this year. I recently decided to put the kibosh on eating wheat (I like to pretend I have an allergy to it like the 99.9% of the beautiful, skinny people who are all suddenly celiacs), and was really missing my morning bowl of cereal. I recently discovered YumUniverse, the genius brainchild of Heather Crosby that promotes a healthy lifestyle through a plant-based diet. I'm not going to lie - some of the recipes made my non-vegan eyes roll (black bean brownies...really?! need to taste it to believe it.), and others got my mouth watering. I think I've read through all those recipes several times now. It's just so interesting to me how Heather takes a fairly basic ingredient, like kale or beets, and can make a full 3-course meal with it.
